Litt lekkasjer fra CNN før pressekonferansen i kveld
Hentet fra ireport.cnn.com:
«Patients with ME/CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome) have waited for this vindication day for months. The NIH, in collaboration with FDA are releasing their most important paper confirming the presence of XMRV, a new retrovirus in 80 or 85% of CFS patients.
XMRV has been discovered by Dr Silverman in 2006 with prostate cancer patient and then Dr Mikovits of the Whittemore-Peterson Institute has been able to prove that the retrovirus is also present in the white blood cells of CFS patients. (Science, October 2009)
The news is important because up to date, 4 studies including the CDC study have found no XMRV in the CFS patients nor in the healthy controls, when Dr Mikovits mentions 3.7% of controls are carrying the virus and the new NIH/FDA paper will mention 7% of the healthy population.
This is also important news because the CDC has been saying for 25 years now that CFS has psychological and psychiatric origins, despite epidemics that date of 2004 and despite reports of rare cancers like Mantle Cell Lymphomas being associated with the disease back then. The CDC has denied all along there was an infectious link with the disease and refused to collaborate with any biological research.
It is estimated that 1-4 millions of patients are affected with CFS in the US and more than 17 millions in the world, most of them have access to no care at all, nor disability insurance.»
