Xenotropic murine leukemia virus-related virus (XMRV) is a gamma retrovirus that has been associated with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and prostate cancer. A relationship between XMRV and CFS was first described by researchers from the Whittemore Peterson Institute for Neuro Immune Disease in Science in October 2009, although not confirmed by other groups. At present, we don’t know if the virus is causally associated with human disease. The seminar will give an overview of present knowledge on XMRV in human disease states.
